Designed in 1777 as the centerpiece of the park created by François-Joseph Bélanger (1744-1818) for Claude Baudard de Saint-James (1738-1784), the villa is a particularly luxurious residence whose interiors are dedicated to the pleasures of vacationing. Its refined architecture unfolds in the heart of a vast English-style park, punctuated by multiple "folies" that emphasize its whimsy and lightness. The ensemble, remarkable both in terms of its architecture and landscaping, has been classified as a Historic Monument since 1922.
Following the restoration of its facades between 2019 and 2021, a second study delivered by the agency aims to complete the restoration of the Folie Sainte-James and its surroundings, breathing new life into this testament to the extravagances of the late Ancien Régime.
