At the heart of the project: the renovation of the Cour d'honneur at the Hôtel des Invalides

The Cour d’honneur at the Hôtel des Invalides is undergoing a complete renovation—the first in more than 350 years. This major heritage restoration project is being led by Christophe Batard, Chief Architect of Historic Monuments, in collaboration with the various specialized partners involved in the project.
The project addresses major compliance issues, particularly regarding fire safety—with emergency vehicles now able to access the site—as well as accessibility for people with limited mobility. At the heart of the work was the complete renovation of the pavement: the courtyard’s 142,000 cobblestones were removed, carefully sorted, and then reinstalled, retaining between 80 and 90 percent of the original materials. This approach illustrates the commitment to heritage preservation upheld by the project management team. Another major challenge: a construction site in an occupied building. Since the Museums of Les Invalides remained open to the public, a rigorous plan was implemented to ensure that visitors and construction operations could coexist without compromising either safety or the visitor experience.
