In Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, the Église Saint-Genest church is gradually revealing treasures that have remained hidden for nearly two centuries. As part of the second phase of restoration work begun in 2023, exceptional murals dating from the 13th and 14th centuries have been uncovered beneath a layer of whitewash applied in the 19th century.

After an initial phase devoted to the exterior—particularly the belfry—work is now focusing on the interior décor. The frescoes, meticulously restored by the specialist workshop Arcams, are gradually regaining their original colors, restoring the Gothic building to its former artistic glory.

The project is supervised by Frédéric Didier, chief architect of historic monuments, who ensures the scientific and heritage integrity of the project. Each stage is validated to scrupulously respect the authenticity of the works and avoid any approximate interpretation or reconstruction.

This rediscovery is a major heritage event for Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, a village ranked among the most beautiful in France, and contributes to the sustainable enhancement of its historical heritage.
