The Basilica of Saint-Denis is preparing to regain its iconic spire, which was dismantled in the 19th century after devastating storms. This ambitious project is also intended to be educational, allowing the public to observe the craftsmen at work.

The Basilica of Saint-Denis, necropolis of the kings of France and Gothic masterpiece of the 12th century, is regaining its original silhouette thanks to the reconstruction of its spire, which was dismantled in the 19th century. This exceptional project, estimated at €37 million, combines public demonstrations—visitors will be able to watch the stones being cut live—and heritage restoration.

Under the leadership of Christophe Bottineau, chief architect of historic monuments, and with the expertise of the firm 2BDM, the façade and north tower will regain their architectural coherence. For Bottineau, the missing spire created a real "missing limb syndrome": its restoration will repair history and collective memory.

This major project, supported by local authorities, sponsors, and partners, aims to restore Saint-Denis to its medieval splendor and welcome nearly 300,000 visitors per year throughout the construction period.
